ZDRAVO KIM! KAŽI NAM KOJIH PET REČI BI VOLELA DA LJUDIMA PROSTRUJE KROZ GLAVU KADA POMISLE NA TEBE?
Srećna, nasmejana, avanturista, vredna pčelica, duhovita.
KADA POSMATRAM TVOJE FOTOGRAFIJE, UVEK ME PREPLAVI ONAJ OSEĆAJ KAO KADA POLAKO TOPIŠ KOCKICU ČOKOLADE U USTIMA. RADIŠ LI OVO NAMERNO? KAKO BI VOLELA DA LJUDI DOŽIVLJAVAJU TVOJ RAD, I ŠTO JE MOŽDA JOŠ VAŽNIJE, KAKO GA TI SAMA DOŽIVLJAVAŠ?
Zavisi. Obično putujem sama kako bih upoznala ljude u mestima gde idem.
ENGLISH
So many places, so little time!
Being that this summer’s issue of Plezir magazin is in the spirit of adventure, soon you will put this girl into your vocabulary as its absolute synonym! We present you with Kim Leuenberger, a young photographer from Switzerland, who is currently successfully finalizing her studies in London. Do not be surprised if you drop into her somewhere when taking pictures of her little toy cars, because she is well known for her series of photographs Traveling Cars Adventures.
Her work can be followed on the website kimleuenberger.com, while many began to experience these adventures through her Instagram profile, where she hides under @kim.ou.
Hey, Kim! When people think of you, which 5 words would you be glad to fly through their heads?
Happy, Smiley, Adventurous, Busy bee, Funny.
To be honest, when I look at your photos, I always get overwhelmed by this perfect sensation as if I’m slowly melting a tinny cube of chocolate. Do you do this on purpose? 🙂 How would you like people to experience your work, and what’s maybe even more important, how do you interpret it? How to you feel your photography?
I try my best to tell a story through my pictures. In all honesty, I take them mostly for me, to play and feel happy. These pictures all have a little part of me in them.
The irresistible Travelling Cars Adventures. What is all connected through this project? Your love for travelling, toys, photography…?
Well, people always assume I love cars and I love any type of toy cars, but I don’t. I choose them from a specific era because it’s that nostalgic feeling I’m after, from the old golden days. There’s something about objects that fascinate me, and I love their personality. I’ve always felt the need to travel, and photography is the way I choose to express myself, so it’s just a combination of all my passions.
You very convincingly seem like someone who is able to love what she does, making it a real job, as something that you’ll continue to pursue and improve. Most people fail to connect the two and make a living out of what they truly love. Do you have a special recipe to share others regarding this matter?
Not really. To be honest, I’m lucky. I’ve always known what I wanted and have never been scared to work hard for it. My parents didn’t really want me to study photography, but I worked and tried other things, before doing everything it takes to do what I wanted. I guess you should never give your goal out of your sight and be prepared to work a lot to get there, eventually.
Is there by any chance something (or someone 🙂 that you love more than travelling and photography?
Haha, no, there’s not. Traveling is more than just a thing for me, it’s part of me, and so is seeing. I can’t live without of these. Well maybe, food could come quite close. I love food.
How do you like life in London? Do you sometimes miss being home?
It’s bizarre because I don’t really feel like I have a home anymore. I’ve learned with the time to not get too attached to things (exception for my cars) and just live day by day.
I love London, and I will always love London, but I can see myself live in a lot of other places too.
Do you have to share with us some special story or anecdote from an adventure? Do you always travel alone or do you have company?
It depends. I usually travel alone to find people in a place. I’m very rarely with someone in the plane. The other day, as I was visiting Aarhus in Denmark, someone stopped me in the street as I was taking pictures of my little toy vespa, and recognized who I was. It was really bizarre!!
Is there a special place in the world you have visited and that left some special memories?
I fell in love with Puglia two years ago. Then there is Colombia that I dream to go back too. So many places, so little time!
What are your future plans? Do you generally make any, or just let things happen spontaneously?
Well, I had to plan my summer quite a lot in advance because it’s one thing after the other. I’ve just flown from Basel to Venezia this morning, and now I’m waiting for a train to Bologna. Next Sunday, I’ll be flying to Bangkok and then I’ll adventure around South East Asia. I can’t wait.
What do you have to say to people who are unsure of themselves and their talents? What do you think, how can they make their dreams come true?
I think you’ve got to try and try again. Don’t take things for granted either. Take criticism, there’s always room for improvement. But don’t let anyone tell you to stop doing something you love!
